Corsets also represent that fashion should not be confined by gender. When fashion is confined, it creates stagnation — a setback in creativity. Corsets remind us that there are no restrictions on control, beauty, or defiance. Once seen as a purely feminine piece of clothing, the chronicles of history have since been rewritten. Corsets were once used to silence the body’s natural shape, but they have evolved into symbols of confidence, posture, and presence. Many fashion designers in the 1980s and 1990s began incorporating corsets into their designs to celebrate beauty and glamour. From runway to streetwear, corsets have become a symbol of art and self-expression — proof that fashion can transform confinement into freedom.

This shoot is from my No. 1: The Authority Issue, where I wear a corset to symbolize my return to power and authority. It represents a reminder to myself that I alone hold the authority to redefine my vision — no one else. Many people have tried to diminish my creativity and confine me to a box, but I’m done with that. It’s time to rise back to the top, on my own terms.

The gold corset is an emblem of what power truly means. When I put it on, my body shapeshifts — I become someone else, someone charged with golden energy. My stance changes, my presence expands. There are no limits in that moment, no boundaries in fashion. The corset reminds me that expression has no rules — it’s about feeling, transformation, and stepping fully into my power.

The black corset is an emblem of structure and protection. Whenever I put it on, I feel as though I am representing both the past and the future. I believe that when it comes to fashion, there should never be any limitations — everyone should be free to express themselves without needing a permission slip or approval.

Corsets have a long history dating back to Ancient Greece and have evolved throughout fashion history. They create a stance of power, grace, and authority that few fashion items can match. Corsets represent what history has long tried to erase: sexuality and sensuality. They are one of those rare fashion pieces that do not abide by gender confinement. Throughout history, both men and women have worn corsets as a reflection of where they have been and where they are now. Corsets hold the ability to convey a point of view — a form of armor. They are more than embellishments or decorative wear; they embody fashion experimentation. It’s more than just about making the waist smaller — it’s about posture, presence, and evolving into a new stage of power.

Since the inception of social media and the internet, many fashion items once thought to be fleeting trends have resurfaced — including corsets. Today, many use corsets to highlight detail, shape, and craftsmanship, while also embracing them as symbols of empowerment and stability.

It can also serve as a social justice instrument — embodying movements such as gay rights, Black lives, trans rights, environmental justice, and women’s rights. The corset becomes a declaration: these are our rights, and we will protect them at all costs.

In the end, corsets are all about looking at where we have come from and where we are going now. They are a promise of strength throughout centuries — a continuity in the laces — and a symbolic reminder of togetherness. The corset is one fashion item that both men and women have worn to signify their stance in the world. Now, it has become a shapeshifter — more than just an embellishment, but an expression of pushing beyond restriction and claiming freedom.
